This class is required for all university employees who might come
in contact with asbestos as part of their routine job experience, including:
- Electricians
- Plumbers
- Carpenters
- Painters
- Maintenance personnel and Trades Helpers
- Custodians and housekeepers
- EHS personnel
- HVAC personnel
- Key shop personnel
- BSG personnel

- Floor tiles
- Patching compounds made before 1977
- Wall and ceiling insulation
- Ceiling tiles
- Sprayed-on insulation on walls, ceilings, structural beams
- Insulation around pipes, ducts, furnaces, and boilers
- Some roofing shingles
- Inside fire doors
- Brake linings and clutch pads
- Lab counter tops
Activities which could result in exposure
- Drilling
- Cutting
- Hammering
- Sawing
- Disturbing/breaking ceiling tiles
- Removing/replacing insulation
- Disturbing sprayed on asbestos

- Labeled buildings / mechanical rooms, etc.

Housekeeping Requirements (for Custodial staff)
- Buffing speeds
- Recognizing AC floor tiles
Safe Work Practices
- Never drill or hammer nails through ACM
- Never hang plants or anything else from ACM
- Avoid touching / disturbing ACM
- Report all spills / exposures
- Contact EHS if in doubt
